Where did the month of May go? We are at June 2 and today is the 2024 Walk to End ALS. The ALS Society moved this date up by 3 weeks (used to be on Father's Day weekend) and has caught me unprepared.
Today, Marcel and I are participating in the 2024 Walk to End ALS. It has been 7 years since the first ALS walk was done with Brian. As you know, this is a cause I feel very passionately about, and one that is close to my heart. Brian was valiant in his fight with ALS. He had hoped advancements could be made to find what causes ALS and subsequently for a test to rule-out or confirm an ALS diagnosis. His passion and determination to fight ALS fuels my drive to walk this walk.
We need your help! We need your support in Manitoba to continue to:
- Community-based support: ALS Society of Manitoba Client Services Coordinators offer home visits and support groups to families and people living with ALS throughout Manitoba, helping them to cope with the realities of the disease and navigate the healthcare system.
- Access to assistive devices: The ALS Society of Manitoba’s equipment lending program is designed to help people cope with the daily challenges of decreased mobility and independence. By providing basic and essential assistive equipment at no cost - like wheelchairs and walkers, bathroom aids and lift equipment - we help support the safety and independence of our clients living with ALS as mobility and communication ability lessen.
- Research for a brighter future: A portion of your donation will be directed to the ALS Canada Research Program and invested in best-in-class Canadian research with the greatest potential for promising treatments or stopping ALS altogether.
