Help our team create a world free of ALS

Our sister Gail was diagnosed with ALS in 2013.  She was 55 years old, newly retired, and had just welcomed her first grandchild.  She was in excellent health and loved hiking, snowshoeing, and skiing.  Two years later, in May 2015, she lost her battle with this devastating disease.  We still don’t know what caused it… if it could happen to Gail, it could happen to anyone.

ALS is a progressive and ultimately fatal neuromuscular disease, which has no known cause, cure or drug therapy of consequence.  This devastating disease slowly robs the individual of the ability to walk, talk, and ultimately, to breathe.

During Gail’s illness the ALS Society of Newfoundland and Labrador was a constant source of support, supplying both advice and the necessary equipment.  I have joined the Walk To End ALS to raise funds that will aid research and help others living with this disease.

Please support our fundraising efforts this year by clicking on the DONATE button.

Thank you.

Your support will help to:
• create a better day-to-day reality for people and families living with ALS by providing community-based support throughout Newfoundland & Labrador - like home visits and support groups – as well as necessary medical equipment like hospital beds, wheelchairs, stairlifts and other items that increase safety in the home, at no cost to those who need them.
• further scientific progress by investing in the ALS Canada Research Program, which funds promising ALS research.  This program provides peer-reviewed grants to researchers whose work has the greatest potential to advance the field of ALS.  There’s been more progress made in ALS research in the last five years than over the last century – we need to keep building on this momentum.

Your support is needed now more than ever - we are stronger together!
