Help me create a world free of ALS

Welcome :)

This month on June 22nd my family and I will be doing the Walk for ALS in memory of my grandmother Maria who we lost to ALS back in 2015. I would REALLY love if you would consider donating to this cause that could affect any of us at any point in our lives, directly or indirectly, and has NO CURE. In case you don't want to continue reading but DO WANT TO DONATE YOU CAN DONATE ON THE RIGHT OR AT: https://alscanadawalktoendals.als.ca/ontario/amigos-de-avo
Rest assured TAX RECEIPTS ARE AVAILABLE and thank you thank you thank you.

What some of you may not know is how much I adored my Avo. She has always been my favourite person, the one that felt like home to me and loved me unconditionally. When Avo was diagnosed with ALS it was the result of what seemed to be just a sore throat/cough affecting her. She was in great health in every other way and it took the doctors quite some time paired with my mom's deep dive on Google to sort out what it was finally. This was in part because in order to diagnose ALS you essentially have to rule out everything else, and in part because the symptoms hit my Avo in a way that was unique from many others who may experience lessened motor control to start but can continue to live years and years after being diagnosed with ALS. In any case ALS is terminal and uncurable. It's terminal, unpredictable and it essentially deteriorates your body right in front of your bright eyes with a brain that is still entirely all there. It's torturous. For my Avo it moved so quickly, heartbreakingly quickly. She went from having a sore throat to not being able to speak at all within weeks, she barely ever wrote or communicated with us again.

Over time it started to affect more and more of her motor control and functioning to the point where we would not even be able to use facial expressions or gestures to make sense of what she needed from us. We took care of her in every way we knew how but to be in someone's company without ever having their company is a feeling that you don't forget. Especially when their company is all that you desire. This was one of the hardest things I have ever had to be witness to and feel even as someone who was not directly impacted myself. I wouldn't wish this kind of experience on anyone and this fundraiser is to try and make that a reality.

This year Brain Canada is matching all fundraising amounts for the Walk for ALS which means that your contribution will go twice as far, help twice as many people and on top of that YOU WILL GET A TAX RECEIPT SO THIS CAN ALSO BE SOME GOOD KARMA ALONGSIDE TAX DEDUCTIONS if that's your prerogative! Noooo judgment here, every contribution helps.

This is your personal invitation to join our team and/or donate to the cause. Even if all you have the capacity to do is read/share this link, we're eternally grateful.
