A Nanny's footprint towards an ALS cure.

Steps for Sylvia!

My grandma Sylvia was so much more than a grandmother, she was like a mother to me. From the time I was very young, she stepped in and raised me with unconditional love, strength, and grace. She taught me the value of hard work, the importance of taking care of your skin, and most of all, how to show up for your family no matter what. Family was her pride and joy!

In 2018, she was diagnosed with an aggressive form of ALS. Within just four months of her diagnosis, she would unfortunately pass. It was a devastating, rapid decline that no one should have to endure. But even in her final months, the support we received from the ALS Society was nothing short of incredible. Their care, compassion, and presence helped bring a sense of dignity and comfort to her final days, something my family and I will always be grateful for.

This year, I’m walking in her honor. I’m walking for Sylvia, for the woman who gave me everything. And I’m also walking for the care teams who showed up when we needed them most, and for every family facing the heartbreak of an ALS diagnosis.

Thank you for supporting me, for supporting this cause, and for honoring the memory of someone who meant the world to me.

With gratitude,
Danyelle
