Holly’s rally for Ryan!
Help me create a world free of ALS, in memory of my brother Ryan.
Help me create a world free of ALS, in memory of my brother Ryan.
On July 29th, 2024, We lost our beloved Ryan to an unbelievably brave battle with ALS. Ryan was 38 years old, and leaves behind two beautiful young boys whom he loved beyond what words could ever express.
Ryan’s battle with ALS was beyond admirable to witness.
I have never met anyone who faced such adversity, such a horrific disease with an iron will to adapt and persevere. Ryan continued to run his personal law practice he built from the ground up right until the end. He continued to show up to work even when his body and voice failed him. He faced clients who mocked him, and proved each and every time that he could still successfully litigate and process complex law documents. As a rare disease, many are ignorant that ALS affects only the body, leaving the mind perfectly lucid and functioning. Ryan faced every adversity head on, and adapted each time his body slowly deteriorated, requiring him to develop a new way to walk, move, type, speak, move his chair... in the end eye gaze allowed him to continue to process law documents with the use exclusively of his eyes. It was remarkable.
This spring we will be participating in the ALS Canada Walk to End ALS. Now more than ever, the ALS community needs our support to provide hope and help to families affected by ALS. That’s why we're joining thousands of others, a part of a passionate and motivated community to “walk” in celebration of hope and a world free of ALS. Please consider supporting our team and donating towards this important cause.
Your support will help to:
- Further scientific progress by investing in the ALS Canada Research Program, which funds promising ALS research. The ALS Canada Research Program is the only national dedicated source of funding for ALS research across Canada. This program provides peer-reviewed grants to researchers whose work has the greatest potential to advance the field of ALS. There’s been more progress made in ALS research in the last five years than over the last century – we need to keep building on this momentum.
- Create a better day-to-day reality for people and families living with ALS by providing community-based services throughout Ontario – this includes home visits and support groups – as well as necessary medical equipment like hospital beds, wheelchairs, stairlifts, and other items that increase safety in the home, at no cost to those who need them.
Join our team in making a difference. Please consider donating to our team fundraising page as we work toward a world free of ALS.
United, we are stronger together!
Together, we will remember Ryan and the incredible legacy and example he has left behind for all of us!
