Meg's Fight to End ALS

A Daughter of an ALS Warrior
Dear Friends, Family, and Supporters,
This year, I will be proudly participating in the Niagara Region Walk to End ALS, and I’m reaching out to ask for your support in a cause that is incredibly close to my heart.
On May 6, 2020, after a long and difficult year of tests and uncertainty, my father was diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis)—also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. ALS is a progressive and fatal disease that attacks the nervous system, eventually taking away the ability to move, speak, eat, and even breathe. There is no known cure.
Watching my father—a man who spent decades serving and supporting our community—lose the ability to do the things he once loved has been devastating. But through that heartbreak, I’ve found purpose. For the past five years, I’ve been passionately fundraising for the ALS Society of Canada, and with your help, I hope to break last year’s incredible record of over $5,000 raised.
This year, unfortunately, we're off to a later start than usual, with the walk taking place on June 7th, 2025—but I know that, together as a team, we can still make an incredible impact. Whether you donate, share the fundraiser, or walk beside us in spirit, your support truly means the world.
The ALS Society of Canada is a registered nonprofit dedicated to supporting people living with ALS, their families, and caregivers. They provide essential services like:
- Home visits and support groups.
- Medical equipment such as wheelchairs, stairlifts, and hospital beds—completely free for those who need them
- Funding for groundbreaking ALS research, which is advancing faster now than ever before
Families like mine rely on these services. They make a real, tangible difference every single day.
So today, I ask:
Please consider donating or sharing our fundraiser.
Every dollar, every share, every show of support brings us closer to better care, better research, and—one day—a cure.
Let’s walk for the people we love. Let’s walk for those who can’t.
Let’s do it together.
With deep gratitude,
Meghan Wolanczyk (née Taylor)
