I know you guys. Most of you have been here before. Why? Because you are the best, the absolute very best. Let's aim for $2,000 again. It's a nice round number, and I know we can do it. Why? Because you're the best.

Remember, your donations -- this year's and all the years' you have supported me in the walk, for many of you that is 23 years -- will help people living with ALS and the people who care for them. The money will help supply hospital beds and wheelchair ramps for their homes, medical equipment, one of those machines that can talk for patients who have lost their speech, all manner of things that will help them live a dignifed life in their own home.

Your donations will also offer hope in the form of research into treatments and a cure through the ALS Canada Research Program. It provides peer-reviewed grants to researchers whose work has great promise to advance the field of treatment for ALS. Canada has solid footing in the world of ALS research. It makes me very proud.

I am told there’s been more progress in ALS research in the last five years than over the last century. You did that. And I can't thank you enough.
