On June 27, “Wayne’s Warriors” will be walking in the ALS Society’s Walk to End ALS in Durham Region in memory of Wayne Scott.
ALS didn’t just take my dad’s life—it took his voice, his independence, and the active life he loved.
In late 2015, Wayne began losing his ability to speak and swallow. By August 2016, he was diagnosed with ALS. In less than a year, he went from playing hockey and golf, traveling, and working in his yard… to needing a feeding tube, losing his ability to speak and eat, and eventually losing his strength and mobility.
On November 2, 2017, we lost him.
Watching someone you love slowly lose every part of themselves to this disease is something no family should have to go through. And yet, every single day, 2–3 more Canadians receive this devastating diagnosis.
But there is hope. Research is advancing, and we are getting closer to a future where ALS is treatable—not terminal.
By supporting Wayne’s Warriors, you are helping fund life-changing research and providing critical support to families facing ALS right now.
If you can, please consider donating. And if you can’t, sharing this message would mean so much. Every bit of support helps us move closer to a cure.
Thank you for helping us honor my dad, and for standing with families like ours.
Wendy Scott-Edmison
