Hello, my name is Hudson.
I just want to talk about our fifth year of Hudsons Homies for Hope and why we are doing it again this year. Around four and a half years ago, my dad was diagnosed with ALS, which was very hard to accept and deal with because I had just turned nine and was scared about what was going to happen.
A couple of months later, my mom told me about the Walk to End ALS and how much doing the walk could do, not only help raise money for research, but also for other families who had people dealing with ALS, just like mine.
When we set up the team, we decided to call it Hudsons Homies for Hope, because I believe hope is very powerful.
Our original goal was to raise $2,500, which felt like a tough task, but as the day of the walk came, our team had raised over $30,000 in our first year. Now we are going into our fifth year of fundraising, and we have raised over $105,000 for ALS Canada, and for other families dealing with ALS.
This year is important to me because my dad would have been turning 50 this year, and I think this would be a great way to honour him by raising money for ALS.
Sadly, my dad passed away two years ago, which is also the average lifespan of people dealing with ALS, which to me shows that every year you raise money, may mean that some with ALS might be able to live a little longer.
So my final question is, will you join me and all of my teammates in being Homies for Hope?

This summer we will be participating in the ALS Canada Walk to End ALS. Now more than ever, the ALS community needs our support to provide hope and help to families affected by ALS. That’s why we're joining thousands of others, a part of a passionate and motivated community to “walk” in celebration of hope and a world free of ALS. Please consider supporting our team and donating towards this important cause.
Your support will help to:
- Further scientific progress by investing in the ALS Canada Research Program, which funds promising ALS research. The ALS Canada Research Program is the only national dedicated source of funding for ALS research across Canada. This program provides peer-reviewed grants to researchers whose work has the greatest potential to advance the field of ALS. There’s been more progress made in ALS research in the last five years than over the last century – we need to keep building on this momentum.
- Create a better day-to-day reality for people and families living with ALS by providing community-based services throughout Ontario. This includes support groups, virtual programming, and information resources, which are all critical in improving the quality of life for people living with and affected by ALS.
Join our team in making a difference. Please consider donating to our team fundraising page as we work toward a world free of ALS.
United, we are stronger together!
