Help find a cure for ALS
Help find a cure for ALS
Our son John Boy was diagnosed with ALS in the fall of 2009. Our first walk was in 2010 and Jack & I have been fundraising ever since! Because of the generosity of our family, friends and community, we have raised over $60,000 since 2010!
ALS is a devistating disease that takes away any dignity the patient has. Systematically, the neurons in the brain that control the body, die and with that so does the function associated with those neurons. We watched this happen to our son and in the end, all he could do was move his eyes. Fortunately, he could still breath on his own, but swallowing sometimes proved to be a challenge as he would choke.
We continue to raise money for ALS so that research can contunue. To date, they have made some huge strides in the treatments which brings them closer to an effective treatment to slow or stop the progression which at some point might even produce a cure! In the mean time, some of the money goes to help those affected with the disease.
Please help us help them
This summer we will be participating in the ALS Canada Walk to End ALS. Now more than ever, the ALS community needs our support to provide hope and help to families affected by ALS. That’s why we're joining thousands of others, a part of a passionate and motivated community to “walk” in celebration of hope and a world free of ALS. Please consider supporting our team and donating towards this important cause.
Your support will help to:
- Further scientific progress by investing in the ALS Canada Research Program, which funds promising ALS research. The ALS Canada Research Program is the only national dedicated source of funding for ALS research across Canada. This program provides peer-reviewed grants to researchers whose work has the greatest potential to advance the field of ALS. There’s been more progress made in ALS research in the last five years than over the last century – we need to keep building on this momentum.
- Create a better day-to-day reality for people and families living with ALS by providing community-based services throughout Ontario. This includes support groups, virtual programming, and information resources, which are all critical in improving the quality of life for people living with and affected by ALS.
Join our team in making a difference. Please consider donating to our team fundraising page as we work toward a world free of ALS.
United, we are stronger together!
