Help me create a world free of ALS

I lost my dad to ALS — a cruel disease that slowly took away his strength, but never his spirit. If you knew my dad, you know what a special person the world lost. In honour of Shahid Hussain, our family will be participating in the ALS Canada Walk to End ALS. Starting conversations and creating awareness will help us move one step closing to finding a cure.

ALS, is known as Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, otherwise also know as Lou Gehrig's Disease. It is a progressive and fatal neuromuscular disease which attacks the nerve cells that control voluntary muscles. This leads to loss of mobility, speech, and eventually the ability to breathe. While the mind usually remains sharp, the body gradually becomes paralyzed. There is currently no known cause or cure for ALS anywhere in the world.

ALS does not discriminate — it can affect anyone, regardless of age, race, or family history. Approximately 90 -95% cases are sporadic, meaning they occur without a known family history or inherited genetic cause.

Now more than ever, the ALS community needs our support to provide hope and help to families who are affected. That’s why we're joining thousands of others to “walk” in hope towards a world free of ALS. Please consider supporting our team and donating towards this important cause.

Your support will help to:

Further scientific progress by investing in the ALS Canada Research Program, which funds promising ALS research. The ALS Canada Research Program is the only national dedicated source of funding for ALS research across Canada. This program provides peer-reviewed grants to researchers whose work has the greatest potential to advance the field of ALS. There’s been more progress made in ALS research in the last five years than over the last century – we need to keep building on this momentum. Create a better day-to-day reality for people and families living with ALS by providing community-based services throughout Ontario. This includes home visits and support groups, virtual programming, and information resources, which are all critical in improving the quality of life for people living with and affected by ALS.
