Team Toyota for Theresa
This summer a team from TMMC along with friends and family will be participating in the ALS Canada Walk to End ALS in support of our friend and colleague Theresa Welton. In August 2024 Theresa shared she could no longer continue working due to how her ALS symptoms were progressing. We are joining together to bring awareness and also raise money to try to end this horrible disease.
Background:
Theresa Welton originally thought that she was going to spend her life as a teacher. She took a winding path, but started at TMMC on November 1st, 2004. She spent 21 amazing years as the administrative assistant that everyone still can't stop talking about.
She tackled the gnarliest Access and Excel problems that the team could throw her way, spending many evenings devoted to upskilling and learning as much as she could. She tried to share her knowledge with as many people as possible - finally returning to her initial love of teaching from 2012 to 2023 by running a full suite of courses for team members, before her ALS diagnosis meant she could no longer climb the stairs at the training center.
Her diagnosis may have cut her time short with TMMC, but she still loves the team and misses the memories, people, and work she was able to engage with so deeply every day.
Everyone that's met Theresa knows her drive and how capable she is. She is a fighter, through and through, and has made sure to contribute to the fight against ALS. She leaves behind a strong legacy which includes providing support to so many others living with ALS, and supporting ALS research through the samples and data she provided to the University of Miami. Please consider contributing to and continuing her legacy of fighting back against this horrible disease.
Your support will help to:
Further scientific progress by investing in the ALS Canada Research Program, which funds promising ALS research. The ALS Canada Research Program is the only national dedicated source of funding for ALS research across Canada. This program provides peer-reviewed grants to researchers whose work has the greatest potential to advance the field of ALS. There’s been more progress made in ALS research in the last five years than over the last century – we need to keep building on this momentum. Create a better day-to-day reality for people and families living with ALS by providing community-based services throughout Ontario. This includes home visits and support groups, virtual programming, and information resources, which are all critical in improving the quality of life for people living with and affected by ALS.Join our team in making a difference. Please consider donating to our team fundraising page as we work toward a world free of ALS.
United, we are stronger together!
