Walk with Habibti #2
Help our team create a world free of ALS
Help our team create a world free of ALS
This summer we will be participating in the ALS Canada Walk to End ALS starting at 10:00 AM on June 6 at the Dorian Parker Centre at Sunnidale Park, 227 Sunnidale Road in Barrie. We're joining thousands of others, as part of a passionate and motivated community to âwalkâ in celebration of hope and a world free of ALS. Please consider supporting our team and donating towards this important cause.
Your support will help to:
- Further scientific progress by investing in the ALS Canada Research Program, which funds promising ALS research. The ALS Canada Research Program is the only national dedicated source of funding for ALS research across Canada. This program provides peer-reviewed grants to researchers whose work has the greatest potential to advance the field of ALS.
- Create a better day-to-day reality for people and families living with ALS by providing community-based services throughout Ontario. This includes home visits and support groups, virtual programming, and information resources, which are all critical in improving the quality of life for people living with and affected by ALS.
My partner Rebecca was diagnosed with ALS in October, 2024. The ALS Society of Canada has loaned to her equipment including a wheelchair, scooter, 2 walkers, showerchair and a bedrail which helps her reposition in bed. This equipment is very beneficial to her. I also have participated in educational webinars, beneficial to me.
Rebecca has also participated in 2 research studies at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. In 2025 she participated in a study which utilized repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) to study and reduce motor neuron "hyperexcitability" in the brain.
In 2026 she is participating in a study which uses focussed ultrasound to open the blood brain barrier in order that immunoglobulin can access the brain.
Thereâs been more progress made in ALS research in the last five years than over the last century â we hope to keep building on this momentum.
Join our team in making a difference. Please consider donating to our team fundraising page as we work toward a world free of ALS.
United, we are stronger together!
