Remembering Darlene Silva
Help me create a world free of ALS
Help me create a world free of ALS
🎗️ ALS has profoundly impacted our family, as it has countless others. We lost our grandmother first, many years ago, and then our mother, Darlene Silva, who passed away at 48. It was a heart-breaking struggle that few diseases rival.
If you aren't aware, here is the devastating disease progression of ALS: https://als.ca/what-is-als/about-als/progression/
Our cousin Kyle is also suffering from the disease, seeing symptoms when he was only 25 years old. He remains upbeat and brave, despite the circumstances.
I have also been confirmed to be a carry of a gene mutation that increases the risk of developing ALS (KIF5A, c.2993_6C>A). Daily supplementation helps to reduce the risk of onset, but it's still a race against time.
All of this, plus having 2 young daughters that might be carriers too, means that raising funds for a cure is a life or death situation.
I appreciate everyone that has donated in years past, and that will donate now or in the future. Great progress is being made in ridding the world of this unnecessary suffering, through breakthrough research. 💖
