Lets do it for The MainPrize -Help me create a world free of ALS
Let’s do it for the MainPrize! To say this year was a challenge would be an understatement. But every challenge presents an opportunity and the “walk” for ALS is my opportunity to help raise awareness and critical funds to honour my father and attempt to make a difference for those effected by the devastating disease of ALS.
Having to navigate a reality where dad can no longer walk or breathe without a machine. ALS has forced us to rethink how one does the simplest tasks most are luck enough to take for granted – get outdoors to feel the sunshine, enjoy a meal, take a deep breath, the relief a hot shower can provide. Getting out of bed in the morning - how exactly does one get out of the bed in the morning when you can’t feel your legs?
The number of times my mother and I looked at each other in total defeat and asked “what are we going to do now… what challenge is going to be next…” Thankfully that is where ALS Canada stepped in.
ALS Canada has not only provided emotional support and guidance but they have stepped up in the most unimaginable way to provide many of the countless pieces of equipment my father now relies on so he can try to lead his time left with dignity and some sort of ease.
ALS Canada has helped us navigate the unthinkable and that is why I'm joining thousands of others - part of a passionate and motivated community to “walk” in celebration of hope and a future without ALS.
As we work to stay positive I ask for your help and support to raise awareness and critical funds needed – please join me in my efforts to make a difference and attempt to take back some sort of control from a disease that has no mercy, no answers and no way out.
Your support will help to:
- Create a better day-to-day reality for people and families living with ALS by providing community-based support throughout Ontario - like home visits and support groups – as well as necessary medical equipment like hospital beds, wheelchairs, stairlifts and other items that increase safety in the home, at no cost to those who need them.
- Further scientific progress by investing in the ALS Canada Research Program, which funds promising ALS research. This program is the only nationally dedicated source of funding for ALS research across Canada. There’s been more progress made in ALS research in the last five years than over the last century – we need to keep building on this momentum..
Please consider donating to our team fundraising page as we work towards a future without ALS. Your support is needed now more than ever and we are stronger together – lets show ALS who’s boss all for the MainPrize!
