Help me create a world free of ALS
Help me create a world free of ALS
We are participating in our 14th annual walk to end ALS, on June 9th, in support of my brother Brian who has ALS. Donations to the Walk to End ALS provides:
- better day to day support to ALS survivors
- scientific research to end ALS
This past fall Griffin, Brian’s son, and I (Bill) went with Brian to Sunnybrook hospital in Toronto. Brian volunteered to participate in an ALS study and required guides for the third and final round of testing.
The support and dedication required by ALS caregivers, this day it was Griffin, always takes me by surprise.
- Operating and manoeuvring mobility equipment,
- Assistance in communicating, drinking and eating,
- Monitoring and operating equipment to support breathing,
- Specialized physical lifts by the caregiver to get in and out of wheelchairs, beds etc…
By the end of the day, it was obvious Brian was extremely tired after a full day of much poking and prodding to complete the tests. A few weeks after visiting Brian at his home, we found out that Brian had a reaction to one of the tests. This left him in bed immobile requiring to be in darkness for the better part of the week. He never complained, just part of the ALS journey.
As always, your thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated.
Many thanks! Bill & Bev
