Help me create a world free of ALS

As you know we participate in this walk each year to support our friends Brian and Tammie Heaney.  They have now been living with ALS for 15 years.  This organization has supported them throughout this journey by providing support allowing Brian to remain living in their home.  There is also ongoing research to find a cure.

Here is an update from Brian:

See more info about me and the disease below.

When I was diagnosed with ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease or Motor Neuron Disease) it was a complete shock and it turned my family's world upside down!  Little is known about ALS (still) except that it is fatal, 80% die in 2-5 years. :( My symptoms began as weakness in my fingers (because the muscles were dying) and this has spread to every muscle in my body. I first noticed symptoms in 2009, in the same month I turned 40. I am now 55, in a wheelchair and barely able to move or talk. But I can still drive my electric wheelchair with my thumb wrapped around the joystick! I am extremely grateful to have seen my children grow up to be wonderful and thoughtful adults. I finally got Covid 19 in March, 2023 and survived! My wife Tammie is with me 24/7 and has been amazing through all of this. I depend on her and my PSWS every hour of every day.

It is my hope that with raising awareness and funds for research and support services that we can make a difference in patients' lives and help find a cure! Through funds raised in these walks, I was able to be included in multiple phase 2 and 3 drug studies!! The studies were not successful but hopefully the next one will be!

Without your donations research would not be possible. Dr Michael Strong , who was the first Specialist I saw in London Ontario , just published a new treatment that works in animals: https://www.schulich.uwo.ca/about/news/2024/may/western_researchers_breakthrough_paves_way_for_als_cure.html.

Join our team in making a difference. Please consider donating to our team fundraising page as we work toward a world free of ALS.

Your support is needed now more than ever – we are stronger together!

Thank you for your support and donations
